HUMAN-MOUNTAIN LION CONFLICT
First Response Protocol

Felis concolor

More than half of California is considered mountain lion territory. But as human populations expand into wildland areas causing continual fragmentation of mountain lion habitat, it's inevitable that human conflicts with mountain lions will increase. This happens especially with young and inexperienced lions that are dispersing and “lose their way," ending up in residential areas.  Or with lions in rural/wildland fringe areas where people have created free-food opportunities for them to take advantage of, by not practicing good animal husbandry with 4H animals or livestock.

To date, 99% of lions that have wandered close to human habitation have been killed.  There are proven, more effective methods for eliminating human-lion conflict that ensures human safety and does not require the killing of any lions, with very few exceptions.

Little Blue Society's Mountain Lion First Response Protocol was designed to help municipalities deal safely and effectively with mountain lion sightings and encounters.
